What are Essential Oils?
Essential Oils are oils derived directly from plants and their parts. Some come from the leaves while others come from the stems or bark. They generally have a strong smell or fragrance.
What do they do?
Essential Oils have been used for thousands of years for a variety of purposes. They range from healing, natural remedies for what ails you to embalming. Most commonly, they are used for Aromatherapy. Certain scents affect our MOOD and OUTLOOK on life.
How can I use them?
There are 3 main ways to use Essential Oils.
- Inhalation - This includes indirect inhalation similar to a nebulizer treatment and direct inhalation (straight from the bottle of undiluted oil) Direct inhalation is NOT recommended for people who may be sensitive or young children!
- Ingestion - Drinking or consuming the oils directly. (aslo NOT recommended without proper training!)
- Topical - using Essential Oils on the skin. It is recommended that the oils be diluted before using on skin to prevent irritation! Way to use Essential Oils topically include SOAPS, SUGAR SCRUBS and LOTIONS.
What are some EXAMPLES of ways I can use Essential Oils?
Lavender has been used to calm and relax. Add Lavender Essential Oil to a soap or lotion used before bedtime to help promote sleep.
Add Lavender to a diffuser to help unwind.
Need a mood lift? Try using citrus Essential Oils like Sweet Orange, Bergamot and Lemon in a soap or lotion to help start your day. This can also be used in a diffuser to lift your spirits!
